Hallo aus Deutschland! - Germany Trip 2026 & Practice Updates
Howdy, Space Cadets!
It is hard to believe that it is already August. Autumn is creeping in, and I’ll admit that I have been enjoying “Augtober” so far. I got a head-start on fall decor and making the house feel more like home. I am loving it, and I am definitely looking forward to cooler weather.
Random Practice Update: I believe the lease on my physical office will run out in November or December of this year, and with the high volume of virtual clients I have been seeing, I am debating letting go of my physical office location (because rent is expensive!) and going fully virtual. If you are an in-person client, I hope you will consider staying on with me virtually, but I am also happy to provide referrals to anyone that prefers to see a therapist in person. Luckily, we live in an area with a good saturation of quality therapists that I am in referral networks with! I am also considering being open to walk-and-talk sessions if you would like to meet up at a local green space in High Point, Winston-Salem, or Greensboro (weather and schedule permitting).
Stay tuned for those updates!

My family and I recently went on a trip to Germany toward the end of July, and we had a wonderful time when we were not hot or trapped. My family and I adventured through Cologne and saw the historic Cologne Cathedral, ate the most delicious sorbet, pasta, and schnitzel, and hopped on a sightseeing bus to explore the city. We rode the cable cars across the river to Old Town, and toured a gorgeous (very humid) botanical garden. We were a little unprepared for the heat wave and slim to none air conditioning, so a portable neck fan became my quick BFF during our trip.
From Cologne, we planned a train trip to Berlin and got stuck on a commuter train for about 10 hours with no air, no food, and no water. After being stuck on the tracks at a random station in Germany, the train personnel began handing out emergency water to get us through until we were able to move again. Admittedly, when we finally arrived in Berlin, I was ready to tap out. My family was hanging in there, but we were all exhausted.
We originally planned to travel again to Triberg after Berlin, but we made the wonderful decision to hunt down a hotel in Berlin and hunker down with A/C and a pool. I wish I could convey how amazing it felt to dip into the cool pool water and hang out in the sauna after a grueling travel experience.
Once we got to Berlin, we toured the Sachsenhausen Berlin Concentration Camp Memorial and that was an experience for the books. We had an interesting tour guide (to say the least) that tried to rush us through the memorial, but we chose to linger a bit longer to make sure we got to see everything. The memorial was solemn, and we saw so many Holocaust relics that made our stomachs churn and feel the energy of the horrors that happened at the location.
Berlin proper was a sight to behold. We saw the Brandenburg Gate, went up the historical TV Tower for stunning views of the city, toured the DDR museum, and explored a palace and its grounds with beautiful gardens. There was also a huge windmill that we climbed all the way to the top! We shopped at several art markets in the streets, dined by the river during a rain storm, tried currywurst, went to the Berlin Dungeon, and roamed around the most gigantic bookstore I have ever seen. During our time in Berlin and Cologne, the cafés were a regular part of our morning breakfasts, and I became a little obsessed with pistachio croissants and latte macchiatos. I am determined now to find a recipe to re-create those croissants and coffees in my kitchen!
After all the excitement of Germany, we traveled back home and have been settling back into our routines. I am glad to be back and able to share this experience with you! Thank you so much for reading if you made it this far, and I look forward to sharing more writing with you in the future.
